Effective Websites for Small Businesses

About the Authors

Whether you're a web designer, SEO, copywriter or other online professional, you know projects go more smoothly when clients are prepared.

Kristi Stangeland

Kristi is President of Mustang Web Designs and is also a licensed CPA. Kristi has a multifaceted background in accounting & finance, technology, business strategy and the arts. She uses that knowledge to partner with you in designing the most effective site for your business.

As the World Wide Web began emerging in the 1990s, Kristi became fascinated with this new resource, and she became an avid late-night “surfer” (after work was done and kids were in bed).

She realized the potential of the Web. Kristi also recognized that CPAs and other professional service companies had not fully grasped the power of the Internet and how it could positively impact their businesses. Suddenly, even small companies could market their businesses to people all over the world at a relatively low cost. Potential clients could find information and products without leaving their homes or offices.

Kristi drew upon her 20 years of experience in developing accounting & finance as well as information technology solutions from a broad spectrum of business organizations – most notably, Pricewaterhouse Coopers, J.P. Morgan Chase, Salomon Smith Barney and several not-for-profit organizations. Thus began a company addressing the potential of the Internet, Mustang Web Designs.

Kristi holds a Bachelor of Business Administration degree and CPA license. She has also served on boards of directors for art, music and religious organizations in numerous capacities – as artist, finance director and technologist in New York City and Westchester.

Karon Thackston

Karon has been in love with advertising since she was six years old. As she watched Saturday morning cartoons she would see the Frito Bandito on the screen and exclaim, “I want to do THAT!”

It was fascinating that the way words were used, the way particular images were shown or where a logo was placed in an ad would decrease or improve its performance. The whole advertising process was exciting, and Karon literally fell in love with it.

Since that time she has spent her business life in pursuit of advertising as a whole. Karon obtained her college degree in Marketing. Every job she held in the corporate world – from newspapers to radio stations to ad agencies – has allowed her to learn more and more about the process of advertising copywriting.

Years ago, Karon began to study the Myers-Briggs outline of behaviors and eventually graduated from a DISC Behavioral Model course. Once again… the ways in which people respond to various words, actions, colors or attitudes had her in awe. As she began to incorporate those new bits of knowledge into her copywriting, Karon found it was working better and better.

She has owned her own full-time copywriting business since 1999. During that time, Karon authored and self-published three books, including the popular Step-by-Step Copywriting Course (5th Edition), Writing With Keywords (4th edition) and How to Write Successful PPC Ads (2nd Edition).

In addition to selling the Step-by-Step Copywriting Course as a self-paced home study, Karon also teaches this course and How to Write Successful PPC Ads in a tutor-assisted capacity at Search Engine College.

Karon has spoken at Search Engine Strategies as well as Search Marketing Expo conferences and was a regular presenter at the High Rankings Search Engine Marketing seminars held throughout the United States.

With over 25 years of copywriting experience, Karon has contributed to the search engine and sales success of companies including Gorton’s Seafood, American Boating Association and more.
